Process and Procedures

Well-documented processes are easy to undervalue until something goes wrong — a key person leaves, an audit surfaces gaps, or growth outpaces the informal knowledge that held things together. Hill Dogs Consulting helps organizations define, improve, and document the processes and procedures that keep operations running reliably as they scale.

We work with processes at any stage of maturity: building from scratch where none exist, formalizing practices that have grown organically, and improving processes that are falling short of what the organization needs. Critically, we ground that work in company culture and existing practices rather than imposing external frameworks wholesale. We bring deep experience with ITIL best practices and Six Sigma continuous improvement methodologies, but our goal is always a process that the people who execute it will actually follow — not one that looks good in a binder.

The mission-and-vision discipline we bring to strategy work applies here too. A process designed around what a team exists to accomplish is fundamentally more durable than one designed around what the team currently does. When those two things diverge, we help close the gap.

The results tend to show up in efficiency and error reduction. A representative example: helping an organization navigate rapid growth through acquisition while preserving the stability of existing operations and adding no new IT headcount. That required defining processes end-to-end, from vetting integration partners to equipping them with the tools needed to perform their work without disrupting existing staff. The growth happened. The operations held.

We have also helped organizations maintain operational effectiveness through significant structural change — whether that means reworking processes after a reduction in staff, or redesigning them to support a transition toward outsourced services. In both cases the goal is the same: ensure the organization that comes out the other side is set up to operate well, not just handed a larger workload with fewer hands.

If your organization is scaling, restructuring, preparing for an audit, or simply trying to operate more consistently, we can help.
